'A day spent with you is my favourite day. So, today is my new favourite day.' To celebrate all the wonderful fathers out there we thought it would be an awesome opportunity to interview one of our amazing Miann and Co brand family members @mahiya_georgiej. Gaining an insight into this amazing family was so wonderful, they believe that it is important to teach their children that "everyday we should love our mummy and daddy and don't need 'one' date to show it". This was such a beautiful comment that is worthwhile sharing! We asked Patrick and his gorgeous children a series of questions… Patrick’s answers: Introduce yourself, we would absolutely love to know a little bit about you! You are great! My name is Patty I am a proud South Sea Island and Aboriginal man. I am a descendant of those apart of the slave trade that were brought to Australia from Vanuatu. What is your favourite thing to do with your children? Anything that involves being outdoors. We have some awesome beaches here on the QLD coast so we spend a lot of our free time exploring the rock pools and just enjoying long days down by the beach with the family. What do you enjoy most about being a dad? Watching each of my children grow and seeing each of their individual personalities develop. What surprised you the most about being a dad? PATIENCE! I’ve had to learn to be very patient in highly stressful situations. I have four kids so it’s pretty hectic some days. But it’s all totally worth it! What is your favourite thing to do with your dad? We are Rugby League Fanatics; so watching our favourite team The Canberra Raiders play is always a favourite thing to do with him. We rarely miss a game! What is your favourite thing about your dad? From a very young age I noticed his work ethic and what he did to provide for our family. So that instilled the same work ethic in me. The children’s answers: What is your favourite thing to do with your dad? (Kyjuan and Dai-shauns answer) We love to play basketball with Dad. We have a hoop at home but we go down to the beach court too and play sometimes. (Mahiyas answer) Go Beach!! What is your favourite thing about your dad? (Kyjuan and Dai-Shaun’s answer) Dad is really funny. He always makes us laugh and he’s a really big torment. (Mahiyas answer) I love Daddy. I recently had the opportunity to interview Brett, father of two dearest sisters. Take an insight into his life as a father and be sure to check out @fifo.dad and @dearest.sisters x What is your favourite memory of being a kid? My father worked away so I would have to say it was when he was home to take me to my sporting events! What is your favourite memory of being a dad? Building a bird aviary with him, it only took us the weekend and we thought we were pretty amazing when we had it finished. What was one special thing you and your dad used to do together? We didn’t have many traditions together as my dad was away for months at a time at work so, that’s why I’m so focused on my girls now when I’m home and doing things with them they’ll remember when they grow up. What is your favourite thing to do with your daughters? It’s different with both girls, Lailah would have to be to collect eggs from our chicken yard, we do it many times a day and she gets so excited about it! And Zaylee is so much fun at the moment she loves being chased around the house and she is obsessed with dancing so that’s a lot of fun, I also love being home and getting to put her to bed sometimes now, she loves being cuddled to sleep so that one on one time just in the quiet is so special. What do you enjoy most about being a dad? The fun of watching them grow into their own little people, they’re both so funny and crazy but full of love and enjoy cuddles so it’s just an amazing time for me at the moment. What surprised you most about being a dad? It probably sounds cliche but I would have to say the unconditional love, it’s honestly crazy how much they can stress you out with tantrums but just one smile and everything is forgotten. How will you be spending this Father's Day? Hopefully start with cuddles from my girls in bed, including Rach who’s currently pregnant with our third! Then maybe a brunch somewhere or Sunday picnic in the sunshine with my girls would be great! As long as we are all together that’s all I could want! Dusty Pink Rib Knit Jumper | Cream Rib Legging | Cream Pom Pom Beanie
I recently had the chance to interview co-owner of Miann & Co and father of three, Terry, to get an insight into his life as a father. See what his kids say about him in the video above, and take a read to see his highlights as a father and how he'll be spending this Father's Day below. Enjoy What is your favourite memory of being a kid? Going on long car trips with my parents for holidays. We would leave very early, like 3 am and I can remember the excitement of being able to take my blanket and sleep in the car while my dad drives and there was no-one else on the road. What is your favourite memory of your dad? My favourite memories of my dad is mostly of him laughing. My dad is a real teaser and he teases till he gets a reaction. I remember how he used to always make me laugh and as a dad myself now, I can understand why he used to do it. It is one of the nicest things to hear your kids laugh from their stomach and just hearing them laugh is enough to make you laugh. What was one special thing you and your dad used to do together? My dad used to take me to work with him and I loved it. Being a plumber looking after the main supply of water to the town, he had to drive far and we would go off-road into the mountains to the river where the water was pumped to reservoirs and then gravitated to other reservoirs in town. Sometimes he even use to put me on his lap and I could hold the steering wheel to pretend I was driving. We would be out all day in the wild and being in South Africa there was always lots of wild life, especially Baboons that would cause all kinds of havoc at the pump stations. (So we would have to go often). I remember how nice it was to get out there and be totally alone with my dad and it just being the two of us with no-one else in sight. I would play all day and if we were there for most of the day my dad would make a fire and we would BBQ on it. What is your favourite thing to do with your daughter? My little girl is 15 Months and our third child. We have 2 boys whom are a little older, 7 and 10 years. I never believed it till now, but the relationship between a dad and his girl is very different to that with boys. You love them all equally, however girls seem to have dad wrapped around their finger from a very young age. I love just sitting with her next to me or on my lap (which doesn’t happen very often as she is very busy and doesn’t sit still) I love watching her experience new things, like when we took her to the beach for the first time. Seeing the expressions on her little face as she experiences stuff for the first time is priceless and something I want to hold on to forever. What do you enjoy most about being a dad? Being a dad creates a lot of enjoyment. I love seeing my kids grow up, but at the same time I wish they would stay little forever. I love hearting them describe things in their own words and it is very entertaining to hear the funny ways they try and figure somethings out for themselves. Their imaginations always intrigue me. I love being able to take them to different countries and travel with them, to see their faces when they experience something new and different. There is something so rewarding about hearing your kids talk about things they remember from previous travel destinations that you thought they have forgotten or did not notice. A dad gets to do all the fun things like trowing them in the air and catching them again, or spinning them round and round thill they hurt with laughter. What surprised you most about being a dad? There certainly are a lot of surprises!! No-one can coach you into being a dad/parent. Being responsible and caring for little people is by no means easy, but it is by far one of the most rewarding things to watch them grow up into self dependant human beings. I am always surprised to see my kids taking the next step and becoming more and more independent with each step they take. It is also scary and sad to think that they end up needing you less and less everyday. As a parent I think you have a constant battle of watching them become more independent, but wanting to have them depend on you forever and never grow up. How will you be spending this Father's Day? I’ll be spending the day with the family and having everyone around me will be enough. Anything we can do together as a family will make it a day to remember.
Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Co-founder of Miann & Co, Terry, to find out how he's spending Fathers Day with his three beautiful kids this year, and special memories he has from his childhood. Let us know how you're spending Fathers Day this weekend. How do you like to spend Fathers Day? As long as it is with my family, I really don’t mind what we do. Sometimes we go away for the weekend and that makes it a special weekend for everyone and not just because it’s fathers day. Having fun is what counts most. What are you hoping your kids do for Fathers Day? I hope they behave!! No, just joking, I hope we get to spend time together and really anything they do will be great! What's your favourite breakfast? Breakfast burritos are my absolute favourite! Especially if one of the fillings are Chorizo sausage. Trying something new and different when you go out for Breakfast is great too. What do you remember about Fathers Day as a kid? Well, I remember getting up early to give my dad his present. Generally it was something we made at school. We also use to steel his aftershave or something like that to wrap up and re-gift to him ... I was very tight. What are your best memories of holidays or family gathering as a child? I used to love holidays, because we all got together as a family and would do something, even if it was a picnic for the day or go away for the weekend to catch up with family. When the whole family got together it was a big event and I remember how much fun and laughter there use to be when everyone was together. How would your kids describe you? That’s a tough one!! Depends on the day I think and if they get their way or not... What's the best thing about being a father? Being able to share your life with your kids and being able to make them laugh, there is nothing more rewarding or satisfying than making your kids laugh and hearing them laugh from their stomach.
