Design Assistant

ABOUT THE ROLE

Miann & Co has a unique opportunity for a Design Assistant to join our Design Team and work alongside the Creative Director in creating our ranges across both kids and womenswear.

The role of the Design Assistant/ Product Developer will be to work with the Creative Director on trend forecasting, fabric selection, technical packs, illustrations (Adobe Illustrator experience a must), new fabrication and application research & testing.

You must be organised and be able to work in and communicate within a team dynamic, liase with offshore suppliers and work intermediately with the Creative Director on executing our brand DNA.

As a member of our small business, you will be led by our ethos of creativity and sustainability in everything we do.

We have flexibility on this role being either a 3 days a week or an ongoing full time position .

Due to the small nature of our business you may be at times required to help the team with warehouse duties, large warehouse sales and other general duties that are involved with running a small business.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, establish and maintain technically sound and well-fitting garments and execution of technical packs for each style in each category including construction details, fabric and trim specifications, and graded measurements.
  • Conduct fit sessions and send fit comments to off-shore suppliers. Be solution focused in difficult situations and problems that can and will arise with garment manufacturing.
  • Use Adobe Illustrator to create technical drawings to ensure suppliers work to exact specifications.
  • Use Adobe Illustrator to create range plans & colour forecasting mood boards.
  • Communicate new technical ideas to design team.
  • Source new fabrics, trims and construction details and compile all information, creating comprehensive archives for the Creative Director.
  • Oversee quality control; ensuring all fabrics, trims and treatments are prepared, approved, and meet required quality, sustainability and performance standards.
  • Be able to request and research appropriate testing to ensure both the safety and quality of all our garments.
  • Work with our Social Media & Graphic Design Team to help execute the creative direction across photoshoots, campaigns and all marketing material.

  • SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Energetic, positive and driven individual
  • Be adaptable to changing situations
  • Can do attitude and willingness to learn 1-2 years design experience preferred, but      not essential
  • Tertiary degree in Fashion field
  • Advanced experience with Excel & Adobe Illustrator
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Organised with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of garment construction
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing small business environment
